Changing ecological and agricultural expectations for US Coastal Plain managed grasslands

چکیده
Across the US Coastal Plain, native grasses and legumes may provide viable alternatives to monoculture pastures of introduced sod‐forming grasses, which require recurring costly inputs. Some available cultivars mostly from neighboring regions, have potential combine forage production for grazing livestock with enhanced habitat, especially grassland birds. A few legume species enhance ecosystem service provisioning existing grass pastures. Such could complement restoration plantings increase connectivity scale function; however, coordination pasture would be needed optimize benefits.

Agricultural conservation practices and wetland ecosystem services in the wetland-rich Piedmont-Coastal Plain region
In the eastern U.S. Coastal Plain and Piedmont region, diverse inland wetlands (riverine, depressional, wet flats) have been impacted by or converted to agriculture. Farm Bill conservation practices that restore or enhance wetlands can return their ecological functions and services to the agricultural landscape. We review the extent of regional knowledge regarding the effectiveness of these con...
متن کاملEcological Capability Evaluation of Sharui Watershed for Forestery Land Us by Makhdoom Model and AHP Method
Forests areas of Iran in comparison with the world is very low and this low area is in demolition threat always. Hence, the remainder of these forests should be managed based on ecological capability evaluation. With regard to importance of subject, ecological capability for forestry in the Sharui watershed, Khuzestan province, was evaluated in 2015. For this purpose, the Makhdoom model and AHP...
متن کاملField application of PAM as an amendment in deep-tilled US southeastern coastal plain soils
In sandy soils of the southeastern USA coastal plains, crop production is limited by low water holding capacity and compacted soil layers that reduce root growth and productivity. Polyacrylamide (PAM) was added to sandy coastal plain soils to improve physical properties and yield. Soils were amended with linear and cross-linked PAMs. Treatments and controls included the following: (1) spraying ...
متن کاملResponses of an Agricultural Soil Microbiome to Flooding with Seawater after Managed Coastal Realignment
Coastal areas have become more prone to flooding with seawater due to climate-change-induced sea-level rise and intensified storm surges. One way to cope with this issue is by "managed coastal realignment", where low-lying coastal areas are no longer protected and instead flooded with seawater. How flooding with seawater impacts soil microbiomes and the biogeochemical cycling of elements is poo...
متن کاملO'connor: Nitrogen Balances in Grasslands Nitrogen Balances in Natural Grasslands and Extensively-managed Grassland Systems
An approach is outlined for synthesising current understanding of nitrogen dynamics in natural grasslands and extensively managed grassland systems. The increasing complexity of models is illustrated from recent literature, first conceptualising and eventually process-simulating the dynamics of nitrogen, especially in the soil sub-systems of grasslands. Some comparisons are made between New Zea...
